The mission of the YCUP is to educate young people from the Mission and South of Market neighborhoods about banking, personal finance, and entrepreneurship. The YCUP helps youth learn how to save and handle money by providing basic financial services developed by and for youth.
The youth-run savings program exposes and involves youth in planning, decision-making, and management of a credit union, in order to provide them with hands-on training and experience managing their own financial institution.
In addition to learning about credit unions, interest rates, investment, and small business management, program participants build upon their leadership, public speaking, and group decision-making skills.
